Town Center Project: Vision & Guiding Principles
Reimagining the heart of campus

Promote intellectual vitality: Create an epicenter for public discourse and the exchange of ideas higher in density and intensity than anywhere else on campus.
Build community through connection: Offer places for unexpected and authentic social interactions that foster joy, well-being, and a sense of belonging.
Celebrate the Stanford of yesterday and today: Connect Stanford’s mission and history to the present in fresh and contemporary ways.
Adapt to Stanford’s changing needs over time: Plan for a variety of spaces for the next 25-50 years, designed with flexibility, informed by research and input, to re-imagine services, functions, and programs that will complement and enhance current and future offerings on campus.
Prioritize sustainability: Design buildings and programs that achieve environmental, equitable, and economic sustainability.
